National trainings for on Trauma informed care (TIC) principles

Trainings for social workers, legal professionals and psychologists were delivered over four trainings during April and May 2024.  Each training consisted of 32 hours (4 full days). A total of 51 participants attended the trainings.

The objectives of the four trainings were as follows:

● To provide the participants with basic understanding of trauma

and how it affects women survivors of violence;

● To establish awareness that trauma must be recognized, taken into account and systematically addressed in the prevention, treatment, and recovery process of women survivors of gender-based violence

;● Train professionals to recognize the signs of trauma;.

● Implement the principles of a trauma-informed approach in all areas of

support provision, including staff, leadership, collaboration and communication with other institutions and policies;

 ● Actively avoid re-traumatization of the service users and the professionals

involved in their support provision.

The 4 trainings were delivered following a structure of modules, as follows:

Module 1

  • Understanding and acknowledging gender-based violence towards women and coercive control

Module 2

  • Impact of trauma
  • The principles of trauma care approach

Module 3

  • Enhancing physical and psychological safety for women and their children
  • Identifying the needs of women and their children related to trauma
  • Prevention of re-traumatization

Module 4

  • Implementation of TIC
  • Developing partnerships with support systems
  • Increasing the well-being and resilience of professionals providing support and each assistance to women who have survived GBV

It was a highly intensive training that met the participants’ expectations and achieved the goal of increasing knowledge about GBV and TIC, as well as the impact of trauma on the behavior and experiences of survivors. Additionally, an indirect goal of connecting participants and building a network of individuals who can support each other in implementing TIC in their daily work was also accomplished.
