The media campaign “Say YES” was created by the graphic design studio Bruketa&Žinić. The campaign was based on the absence of budget allocations for shelters for women survivors of violence in the national, county, and city budgets. Its aim was to raise awareness of this issue as a matter of political responsibility at the city, county, and national levels—specifically, the responsibility of the people in those structures.
Printed materials for the campaign were distributed at a press conference on September 10, 2008, and during a street action on September 20, 2008, at Cvjetni Square in Zagreb. We distributed 10,000 leaflets with information about the campaign and our organization. Citizens showed their support by signing 1,000 postcards, which were then sent to the Mayor of Zagreb, the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Croatian Parliament, and Zagreb County.
We also created and distributed 1,000 badges bearing the message “SAY YES”, which people could wear to show their support for systematic funding of women’s shelters. Additionally, 3,000 posters were printed and displayed throughout Zagreb and across Croatia. Advertising panels were also placed in various locations around the country.
We published ads in newspapers and magazines owned by our sponsor, Europa Press Holding. Through these ads, we invited the public to support our campaign. All five campaign videos—three of which were paid for and two donated—were distributed and broadcast from September 10 to 25, 2008, up to three times a day on Croatian National Television (HRT), RTL, Nova TV, and Z1 Television.
